President's Message
Dear friends,
Männerchor Liederkranz is a German male choir which strives to preserve the rich German cultural heritage through song. We practice every Wednesday from September through to June at 7:30PM at the GCCA.
We participate in social events in the German Community, in song at the Kaffeeklatch, German Days, and at other German festive occasions. We represent our club to the larger community in Edmonton by singing at hospitals and continuing care homes, Alberta’s Legislature, and at a number of church services during the Christmas season. We organize and present three main concerts each year: an Advent concert, a Christmas concert and a spring concert.
We also attend and regularly host the Prairie Sängerfest which is a Western Canada German singing festival held every two years. We have enjoyed many trips to Germany singing with other German choirs
Our choir is always looking for new members, so please check us out at the GCCA any Wednesday between 7:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. If you would like our choir to sing for an event, please give us a call.
I look forward to seeing you at our next concert.
Leonard Kieser
Dear Friends of the Liederkranz,
I want to take a moment to explain a bit about the music that we sing. I think it is important for our choir to set musical goals that allow us to grow as singers, as well as to sing songs that reflect our German heritage.
I work with a song committee within the choir to select songs for many different occasions. We try and develop a mixed repertoire of songs that are interesting to our audience and that highlight the skills of our singers. This may include songs in German, English, or songs that we sing just for fun. We also have a strong Christmas repertoire as well as ten years worth of songs from the Men Making Music series of concerts. Sometimes we will develop a theme for our singing such as the series of "Sailor Songs" we sang in the last few years. We have also started holding choral workshops to help our singers with things like breathing technique, musical theory, and sight reading.
If you would like to join our choir I would be happy to work with you in a brief audition to help pinpoint your vocal range and to determine where your capabilities would best fit in to our choir.
I look forward to seeing you in song.
